and back together it goes...

gordonmessmer and I put most of the bottom end of the R50 back together on Saturday. We spent most of the time prepping things and waiting for the parts to either heat in the oven or cool in the freezer. The actual assembly took about 30 minutes. When bringing the parts together it was amusing to hear the sizzling as the frost on the cold parts boiled off on contact with the hot parts.

We made sure to take plenty of pictures this time. We didn't get every little step but you can pretty much see how it all goes together.

Quite a difference!

Before I can close up the case I need to do some repairs to the cam timing gear. I managed to damage two of the teeth when I was trying to pull the gear off the camshaft. Nothing terrible, but those two teeth don't have the proper clearance now and will need to be dressed with a file.
