A friend of mine has started a new business selling wireless hardware. Not the usual home AP stuff mind you. This is industrial geek class stuff. Weatherproof roof mount gear. So I bought unit number one of his Mark II kit.

It's a pretty neat setup. Basically a 133MHz 486 with 64 megs of RAM and 64 megs of soldered down flash memory. There is a single 10/100 network interface and two mini-PCI slots. The system is powered via 802.3af power over ethernet so there's only one wire to plug into the system. All of this in a box that is effectively waterproof and UV protected.

So now I'm just waiting on the antennas. I've obtained a tripod, and got permission from my landlord to put it all up on the roof.

Why am I doing this? Well, because :)
