So this is what insanity feels like

Today my dad and gordonmessmer came over and helped me pull the engine, transmission and final drive out of the R50. We took a bunch of pictures as we went. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. Now I have to formulate a plan of attack as to which component to work on first. This will determine which special tools I need to order and what parts list to work through for replacements.

Boats are frequently described as "holes in the water in which one throws money". While I am certain that this is the two-wheeled equivalent, I am at a loss for an appropriate phrasing.

Besides, I finally got the title to that bike I've ignored all summer. Why not help me fix something from our lifetimes?

I'm ready when you are. I'm sure there will be plenty of times that I'm waiting on some random part or tool for the R50.

What do we need to do first on that thing? Have you got the shop manual yet?

I have a bad scan of the service manual of dubious provenance bought off the tubes. Tomorrow I'll be ordering the first handful of parts: new battery, clean oil filter, etc. After that, cleaning the carbs and fuel system of the aged varnish that used to be gasoline.

I'm going to try to get it registered Monday. After that, work can begin.
