Vintage Bikes!

I attended the monthly meeting of the Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts tonight. It was totally awesome. There were something like 100 motorcycles there, mostly vintage but plenty of modern bikes as well. Plenty of people were interested in my bike as it appeared to be one of the oldest there. 3 people even took pictures, which made me feel pretty damned good.

I'm also happy to report that the bike can do 65 mph just fine. Though I'm unlikely to ever get a speeding ticket on while on the highway. I'm going to get the front brakes relined before I take it out again though, I think that the old pads are breaking down faster now that I've adjusted them.

I hope you don't get too hot wearing what I consider acceptable safety gear (which amounts to those Sumo suits, or something they'd wear on American Gladiators) as you hurtle at breakneck speeds down the road.

Not that Little Miss Leadfoot can say much about it, but at least I have several tonnes of metal around me when I do it!!

I always ride in proper safety gear, the stuff I'm wearing here: http://picasaweb.google.com/unrepentantgeek/48Years#5311025866361424306 plus a white full face helmet (it's hiding behind the camera here.) Of course that suit is about 3 sizes too big now but there's a new one on the way... eventually.

I'm actually a bit fanatical about safety gear. I get pretty upset when I see people riding motorcycles with inadequate or non-existent safety gear. I'm always looking for new ways to protect myself. One day I'll have an airbag in the suit. :)
