Jun. 11th, 2008

Today I went with some of my coworkers to the gun range and fired a gun for the first time. I fired a .22 rifle, a .22 semi auto pistol, a 9mm semi auto pistol, a .40 semi auto pistol and a .44 magnum revolver. I don't think that it's something that I'll be too into, but it was certainly an enjoyable experience and I'm glad that I went. I'm still a little nervous around firearms but at least now I know a bit more about them.

When I got home I set to work on the R50. I removed the front wheel and inspected the brake shoes (they'll need relining real soon.) I put the wheel back on and adjusted the brakes per these instructions and after a quick check in the driveway I took it out for a short test ride. While the front brakes are still pretty lackluster at least now they work. One of my next jobs will be to reline the pads with modern material which is said to greatly improve braking power. Tomorrow I'm going to ride it to work. :)

I believe it's a good thing if you're never easy around firearms.

It's probably the worst thing ever to be uneasy around firearms. :P Knowing how to use them and be comfortable handling them doesn't make anyone violent, it just makes them capable in an emergency situation that involves firearms.

If you can get a gun across the border, I can think of a few people who ways we could put your newfound marksmanship to use.
